23. Pilgrimage commences

Mont-Saint-Michel area was the target. After sorting the WiFi (always a challenge) it took an hour and a half to find a vacancy in our price range (<£25/night). Such is the self imposed challenge when organising sites as you go however, it does give us great flexibility. We joined ASCI hoping it would be good but have discovered that it only covers two adults and to make up the difference, many sites want up to £12/child!

Breaking camp took about ninety minutes which is good going for us. We stopped for fuel after an hour and got jammed exiting on a tightening turn, walled in by butane bottles, which provided impromptu entertainment for the locals, the likes of which are usually only on offer at boat retrieval slips. After about ten minutes we managed to reverse through the service station. The bulk of the time was waiting for a lady in a Yaris who had the challenging task of reversing, in a straight line, for about five metres, in her Toyota Yaris. She did well and I imagine went home for a nip of fortifier and a lie down after such an ordeal. Her task may sound simple but I assure you it was not. Actually, had I thought of it we could have used her reversing as a snap lesson on fractals for the children.

Drove on every narrowing roads as we neared our destination and arrived at a lovely seaside campsite. The woman was surprised by the Giantavan but found a good spot for us. The site is on a slope but our plastic chocks purchased for the purpose worked a treat.
