271. No games

Milan

A second trip into Milan, this time with brakes, was in order today. Rain had been on the schedule all day and halfway into Milan the heavens opened, to the extent that even the locals slowed on the motorways. We considered turning back but as we were halfway, pressed on. I'm glad we did as we enjoyed a twenty six degree perfect day.

The cathedral - Duomo di Milano and the Arcade, again, as per Tim's instructions was the order of the day. Paid the three euro per person for the tickets at the museum and waited maybe ten minutes in the sun, in the square, while the children suffered. Well worth the wait (for the cathedral and for the children's suffering to amuse us in the meantime).

Afterwards we went to the arcade, children gutted that there were no computer games though buoyed by a visit to the Ferrari shop and later, on the way home to a Lamborghini dealer, impressive even when shut for the day.

Iris was very scornful when I commented on the logo on the building on the left.
"Romulus and Remus, obviously, everybody knows that!"
Impressive facade, covered with statues and figures
Melting

The arcade
A lot of cleaning being done, it absolutely glows where cleaned
Hundreds of beautiful statues adorn the cathedral
The arcade from the cathedral. It is huge and laid out in a large x over a hundred metres long

The floor is particularly beautiful
Saint Bartholomew Flayed (1562), by Marco d'Agrate,
the saint shows his flayed skin thrown over his shoulders like a stole .
Marco is remembered for having a good innings killing protestants.
At the end of this arcade we came across this protest "Nobody is illegal"
Arcade interior.
Wouldn't work in Christchurch as it would be a wind tunnel
Evening snap as we departed
