Interlaken, Switzerland
Short drive to Interlarken with a long, steep (really steep) zig-zag climb out of Raron taking us to the
Lötschberg Tunnel, which was a surprise. The tunnel is train only so you drive onto carriages a bit like the chunnel (UK/FR) and drive along till the carriages are full. The next train was too small for us so we waited about forty minutes, for the larger train listening to
HP read by Stephen Fry. Audio books are very much a feature of our driving. Fry is a delight to listen to.
The fourteen and a half kilometre tunnel takes about twenty minutes sitting in the car rumbling along. The carriages are open sided so is a very different experience.
Arriving at camp, where they had indicated they had vacancies, was interesting as there is a fixed cost per person totalling thirty two francs per night for us then additionally, each site individually priced ranging from little tent sites up the back for six francs up to large waterfront sites for forty francs. To complicate matters each site has a tag indicating when it is pre-booked. Push-comes-to-shove, there weren't a lot of options for an unbooked Giantavan.
