367. Out with the Bulls

Early start with a flapping Dad urging everybody out the door. Exit slightly simplified by not being allowed to take backpacks, food or drink to the event. Luckily, cash and credit cards welcome. Weather a promising twenty three degrees, tickets printed and off we went, not really knowing what to expect. Was it like an airshow or a car race or a drift event like the IDC which is fantastically well run?

We had paid extra to get seats in the stands. It did give us a better view and it would have been a very long day indeed without seats. 

There was a fantastic display of aerobatics by the incredible BO105-C was well ..... incredible. Was separated from the camera at the time.

Thought I had the perfect snap but Roman turned his head at the last moment

Wood fired pizza all mounted on the back of an old army truck.
Very authentic and traditional could be forty years old with
pricing from forty years in the future to balance things out

Going into the chicane

A display by a autonomous helicopter. It is about twenty feet long.
The image transmitted from it was terrible compared to the RedBull
media helicopter with the NZ Shotover equipment on the nose

The chap with the tiny chute, half the size of these came down in half the time

We knew when they were about to start as the
media helicopter would dive from 1,000ft to catch them

Out with a magneto failure. I was stunned that they use magnetos
No performance or road engines have used them for fifty years
a pathetic aviation hangover with no benefit

so smooth to watch.
Used to seeing Falken Tyres at drift meetings

Really looking forward to the P-38 

Couldn't resist this snap of airliners overhead

P-38 did the whole display with two Alpha Jets
Beautiful but couldn't hear the P-38 which was disappointing

The Trojan sounds as lazy as a Harley
Unlike a Harley it can really move 

The wingtip smoke system is amazing in itself as it gets carried by the tip vortex
which is there anyway......

Resulting in these amazing smoke rings, normally invisible 

I know the effect of these when I follow a heavier aircraft in WEN 

I knew about the Red Bull Blanix.
Was delighted when they arrived overhead
Flares in the wingtips were impressive

The Blanix dates from 1956 and was the first all metal glider

The big screen was fantastic.
The commentary was very clear as the sound system was fantastic,
not loud but clear, German
The pixelation is due to shutter speed

RNZAF Red Checkers displays I have seen over the years

Diamond Aviation are based at this field.
The last aircraft manufactured here were ME109 by the thousand

A lovely tight display.
Diamond are the only company to produce a new light twin this century .

Lots of free activities. The children had been hanging out for a go.
I thought they would be packed up by the time we left,
we were lucky, no queues

that I only got one decent snap
