Aylsham to Wroxham
Up to Aylsham to ride the Bure Valley Railway 15" gauge railway the nine and a half miles down to Wroxham. We stumbled upon this railway a couple of days ago when we were looking for second hand books. The train stopped at Wroxham for twenty minutes so we again left, groaning with books.
The train is lovely and has continual embankments and cuttings as it makes its way. The engine was built in the 1990s and has 3,000 tractive pull so is no toy. There was little smoke as the use high quality Welsh steam coal.
Roman and I rode immediately behind the engine which was great, particularly hearing and feeling a tractive breakaway on a hill start halfway up the line. Rattling along on the narrow gauge line with all the sights and smells was great fun.

Off the Roof
This morning I got the dinghy off the car and fitted the wheels that I am installing in lieu of the launching trolley that we left behind. Thank you again Tim for drilling the stainless 316 axle a couple of weeks ago and sacrificing many bits in the process.
Gaff rigged so the mast is short |
Rigged it for the first time and very pleased with it. Loving the gaff rig as I makes it very handle able.
Roman looks like a full-scale driver next to that locomotive!
ReplyDeleteDo the wheels stay permanently on the boat?
Held on with an R clip at each end so easily removed. I'll take a snap with them off.
DeleteI parted a hinge to make the mounts.
Now that you have the boat rigged, you're going to have to remain in the Broads for the next month.
ReplyDeleteWoke to wind in the leaves of the trees overhead so really excited.
DeleteWill wait to high tide zone around midday so the the current is slack.
Need to book our next stop in the South of England near Folfstone.
