1. We have liftoff

On the Road

After two weeks sorting everything and completing a long list of things for the caravan we are off.  The list of things included

  • installing interior fresh water tank so that we had water when we stop roadside
  • mounting the solar panel and roof box
  • getting the hot water cylinder going (thank you Paul)
  • adjusting the brakes
  • acquiring a Mirror dinghy and adapting the roof bars
  • making a ladder block to stop unwanteds climbing onto the caravan roof
  • partitioning under our bed
  • fitting the inverter and remote
  • wiring up the solar panel
We thought we were leaving Tuesday and finally got on the road today, Friday.

We always wanted to visit the Norfolk Broads and so have headed to Reedham Ferry Campsite.

Jonathan visited us to say goodbye which was great. Getting away was fraught with Jacqueline's car needing to be dropped off for a wheel bearing.  Lucy and Jago were good enough to make us lunch and we finally hit the road at four, arriving in the dark at Reedham ferry at ten pm!

At this point I discovered the caravan water pump was dead but I had had my suspicions and so had a spare.  Got to bed at 1am.
Gaff rig means that all spars fit inside the boat for roof topping.
All spars, sails, foils, oars etc are in the boat.

Home made ladder protector.  Red/white sign required for Europe
The long way round to avoid a tiny humpback bridge.
Took a lot longer than four hours!
