22. An interesting tapestry of life

Bayeux

Tutoring in progress
I must admit, I was not interested, when the destination was suggested, last night.  The Bayeux Tapestry did not appeal as an interesting focus for the day. Well, I was proven completely wrong.

Driving to Bayeux we phoned phenPhen* who said that he also had been nonplussed, out-voted, and had really enjoyed seeing it. This was encouraging indeed.

The day started latish with a good bash at maths homework by the kids which is encouraging.  Fyfe is proving to be an excellent tutor for the younger two, encouraging them on.  Something Iris seems incapable of!  Also a good hour long yack with Uncle Chris which was great.

Bayeux Cathedral

Drove into the middle of town, parking five minutes away and walked straight in to the exhibition past the cathedral.  Wonderful, no queues at all.  The tapestry is beautifully displayed and one walks, very slowly, along listening to the supplied audio commentary which is superb.

Roman enjoyed his Children's Audio but lost interest in the static displays so we returned to the Disco to feed the meter as an hour and a half was the maximum stay.  The girls carried on viewing the statics.

Returning to the car the boys popped into the cathedral and I am pleased to say that it bore the signs of an active parish

The lads slipped into a Crepe Cafe for a butter/sugar crepe at the very reasonable price of €2.60 each, in a lovely cafe, while swearing to secrecy. We also found a hat shop with a suitable prospect for which I would seek approval.

Eventually the fems returned having lost Iris into the depths of the display.  Hats were approved and we ended up back at the same for a round of crapes for six - delicious (had to admit our prior though).

*Cousin Stephen Phennah.  phenPhen "fenfen" was his nickname at school I think it is particularly clever.
