78. Bath time

Gijón

Shanghai action this morning
Jac talking to Jennifer
Trained into Gijón today, missed the first one for undisclosed reasons and nearly missed the second, had to chuff up the hill to make it in time.  Complete Google maps failure regarding train scheduling, either that or the trains were hopelessly out off schedule.

Train terminated a twenty minute walk away from our planned destination.  The terminating stations was lovely and shiny but obviously forgot to tell Google.  A suburb of high rise, bland apartments lined our walk with vistas of the same when the view allowed. Gradually, the apartments became more shiny, then possibly gracious, then externally lit and we were within the city proper.

Roman bath ruins underneath

Highlight of the day was the beautifully presented Roman Baths which have been capped overhead with a concrete roof creating a beautiful park above with marble paving.  It was warm and welcoming with a superb series of walkways allowing for close inspection of the two thousand year old wonder.

I was very impressed how the

structure of the baths allowed the hot fire exhaust to circulate underfloor and within walls while keeping clear of the water waste gravity system.

Returning to the station through town, multiple traps were sprung lurching us into retail therapy that I hadn't realised we were needing.
