81. The last mile

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Nice site but €42 / night to much
Jac, Sheena & Roman
Today we made like pilgrims and walked the Way of Saint James into town or at least the last kilometre and a half of it, from the campsite to the cathedral. It certainly is an impressive pile and the pilgrim business is obviously flourishing with lots of money being spent on the cathedral. Surprised how many pilgrims there were about.  Observed that a true pilgrim needs bling, the minimum bling being a gnarled stick with gourds hanging from it used as a walking stick and a canvas pack with bedroll. Additional bling points for looking weathered and earthy. The ultimate bling we observed was a hippy looking couple, complete with donkey as their beast of burden - full bling.

Poked around town including a classic hardware shop with everything in brown boxes behind the counter.  I was half way through communicating that I needed a push lock one inch fitting when Brian strolled in and plucked it off a display stand. We bought two and they were carefully wrapped in brown paper with string.

The university occupies many of the buildings

I suspect Roman's prayers were for a good result at Christmas
