Lake Maggiore, Lake District (near Milan) Italy
Lunch stop |
Big climb out from the coast, sailing along in the middle lane at our standard eighty kilometres per hour, on cruise control, past an endless convey of beautiful big trucks making their way north. They all pass us once the going is level.
Did our normal lunch stop, at a services, of filling rolls etc. that we had bought yesterday at the supermarket. One of the great advantages of travelling like a snail, with our house on the back.

Realised in the half hour before we arrived at our camp, about three thirty, how absolutely beautiful the Italian lake district actually is. Everybody knows about Lake Como but our camp accepts twin axle caravans (about half don't) and is on Lake Maggiore, the largest lake. Arriving at the camp we were absolutely delighted, the children with the playground and swimming pool and Jacqueline and me with the lake. I had booked ahead expecting crowds, only to be welcomed with "park by the pool and find yourself a spot anywhere" We arrived at the same time as a very tall couple in a tiny caravan about two metres long and two metres wide, four square metres, we are over eighteen square metres inside. Going by the grills on their caravan, the kitchen is at the back end, so they must sleep curled up crossways. They are very nice and wisely elected to camp at the opposite end of the camp.
While Fyfe and I set up the children threw themselves into birthday preparations for Audrey's birthday tomorrow for which we have been in countdown for the last week.
While we ate dinner, dusk fell, mosquitos arrived. Luckily we had bought Jacqueline for protection so the rest of us were relatively unscathed which is a good result, on average. The mozzies even nailed Jacqueline through her jeans for which the rest of us feigned sympathy for, the greater good. We retreated into the awning which has excellent mozzie nets as does the Giantavan.
After dinner Audrey made marzipan figurines for her anticipated cake. Reminder to self - check with J that there is a cake.
Crampavan! Excellent! What a magic spot
