168. Banana

Agadir

One bit of heavy rain during the night and that was it. Hardly the five to seven millimetres per hour forecast. When we got up this morning the site was dry and it was a warm overcast day. This was partially due to our getting up extremely late and some not till this afternoon!

As this area is so arid we decided to go for a drive up Banana valley. Aouira is a couple of clicks back toward Agadir and there are many roadside stalls selling bananas, hence the name. We headed inland and were surprised how far the town went. Pedestrians are pushed on to the road by the stalls and lack of footpaths so it is slow but very interesting going. Above the town we ran alongside the river and people were out in droves looking at it so it is obviously quite an event. The river was iron oxide red and beautiful.

Eventually we came to a ford. It was fast moving but only about a foot deep. Would have loved to have crossed it but there was no point as we were just going for a drive. none of the cars were crossing but their bodywork would have been in the water which is what floats a car away.

We could see that the water had been about a meter higher overnight.  Certainly would have been spectacular had the heavy rains come.
