385. Ferrys

Venice

Back into Venice again today. Bought a two day, all day boat pass for the family for the princely sum of one hundred and eighty euros - gulp. On arriving at St Marco we then took the number one ferry up the Grand Canal, stopping at every stop, sometime only fifty metres apart, crossing the canal to and fro. We got off one stop before the Rialto bridge to cross to the supermarket, only to discover that the market crossing was a Gondola crossing so we walked inland around a block to cross at the bridge.

Crossing the Rialto Bridge to the Supermarket
We ate our lunch sitting in a small square near the Rialto bridge. We sat on a small step, on the edge of the square not a thoroughfare or a doorway, well out of the way aware of the local bylaws, not really wanting a two hundred euro fine. There is no litter in Venice now, unlike my last visit and no sign of anybody picking up litter.

After lunch we carried on up (up?) the canal to just past the railway station.

Many ground floors are abandoned.
Hopefully the MOSE project due for operation starting 2022
will rectify this.

At the top of the canal the girls purchased these Venetian (Chinese) masks

But not this one

  1. "Murano Island Ferry Love the way in Italy everything is named after
different Ferrari's" I find it amazing that so many Italians have changed their surname after the car too :)
