Rome - Colloseum
Drove in, in the end as it was slightly cheaper and much faster, even with the crazy traffic in Rome. Parked ten minutes walk away and walked in, buying entry tickets online on my phone as we did so, avoiding any queues, minor as they were, and walked straight in. Weather is a perfect twenty two degrees, I have no idea how people cope in the summer as it is hot enough at twenty two.
The place makes me feel bilious with over one hundred thousand people murdered here while it was in operation and in one week alone nine thousand animals tortured and slaughtered. Lions, elephants, bears, tigers, deer, wild goats, dogs, leopards, crocodiles, boars, hippopotamuses were used. All the large animals were wiped out of north Africa feeding places like this. During Ceaser's reign alone, three and a half thousand elephants were tortured and killed for entertainment. There is no evidence that Christians were fed to the lions as popular myth indicates. Need to do more research on this.
