292. Passed

Three Passes - Grimsel, Furka & Susten

Recommendation from brother Douglas:
The totally amazing 3-passes drive from Zermatt to Grindelwald. Perhaps not one for the caravan!
Today we decided an explore was in order. The recommendations from family and friends are very welcome. We returned with two hundred and eleven photos across three cameras which I have now reduced to forty six. Not a small job with editing to be done also. The advantage of the blog is at least I do it!
Chapels are dotted across the landscape, ‎⁨Grafschaft⁩, ⁨Valais⁩, ⁨Switzerland⁩
Obviously house design is strictly controlled as is urban sprawl
which does make for beautiful landscape.
T bar ski tow beside the village in the snap below.
Tows are everywhere, this one would be a lovely family one
Village beside the tow, ‎⁨Münster⁩, ⁨Valais⁩, ⁨Switzerland⁩
Airfield at Obergoms⁩. All the fields are mown, the grass removed for barn animals
Starting up the Grimsel Pass, you can see the road zig-zagging up
Up the Grimsal pass looking toward the Furka Pass
Hydro lake at the top

Grimsel Pass
Freshly sprayed white lines, focuses driving

Super hot day, about 24ºC up here but still didn't feel like swimming
Down Grimsel
Obviously loads of snow up here usually
Starting up Furka Pass
Beautiful hotels dot the landscape
Looking down from Furka Pass, Grimsel Pass on the right
Couldn't walk up this path as large chunks of snow/ice were overhanging

Heading on down the other side from Furka Pass

Stopped here for an explore

Walked up a bit expecting a tarn....
... and it opened up to this ....
... and this

Many of the hotels don't look like they are doing particularly well

Realp
The roads are a feat of engineering. Came through the covered section to the right first
Mid summer and virtually no traffic today - wonderful
