334. Book Burning

Salzburg

2008 Eyewitness guide
£2.30 off eBay UK
As this is about as close as we could get to Salzburg at the moment it was always going to be a big day. Travelling there we avoided the motorways and tootled through absolutely beautiful farming country at about eighty kilometres per hour. Jacqueline generously lets the AP sit in the front seat which is appreciated and we were both fascinated by the farming practices. They are still making hay and the AP was surprised at the low yield. Drove into the heart of the old town and found a park right beside start of the DK Eyewitness guides start point.

The city did not disappoint and the tour busses were leaving so we enjoyed a wonderful late afternoon and evening wandering around.

Getreidegasse a long and very busy pedestrian street.
Altes Rathaus, 15C Town Hall
Classy buskers
Stuff to see in every direction
Iris
Audrey in her new hat that I insisted on

Residenz Platz fountain
Sobering monument to the Nazi book during that occurred right
here in 1938. Made for an interesting family discussion
Residenz Platz
A massive bell could be seen swinging with a beautiful deep tone

Hohensalzburg fortress in background
Stumbled upon this open air viewing of an Italian Opera with German subtitles.
Sat and watched for half an hour.
Roman was describing to me the elaborate plot as it developed - didn't have the heart to tell him
that they were merely setting the scene.

Beautiful views crossing the river to the Disco
